Kerem Shalom Border Crossing (archive). Gaza: UN humanitarian convoy attacked Peace and Security
The World Food Programme (WFP) announced on Wednesday that it was suspending the movement of its staff in Gaza until further notice after a team returning from an aid mission was attacked on Tuesday evening, just meters from an Israeli-controlled crossing.
“Another security incident that puts the lives of our staff in Gaza at risk is completely unacceptable,” WFP Executive Director Cindy McCain said, calling on the Israeli authorities and other parties to the conflict to take immediate action to ensure the safety of all aid workers in Gaza.
Thankfully, no one was hurt in the attack, the World Food Programme said.
“A clearly marked UN aid vehicle – part of a convoy that was fully coordinated with the Israeli military – was attacked “He was shot 10 times, including in the windshield,” UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric told reporters at a briefing at UN headquarters on Wednesday.
Dujarric reminded that all parties to the conflict must strictly comply with international humanitarian law, and that civilians must receive everything they need wherever they are in Gaza.
