On Monday and last weekend, at least seven civilians were killed as a result of fighting in the front-line regions in eastern and southern Ukraine. This was reported from the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), citing local authorities.
In total, almost 80 civilian casualties are reported. More than 200 residential buildings and civilian infrastructure were also damaged, including power lines, gas pipelines, educational institutions and ambulances.
Humanitarian agencies warn that attacks on energy infrastructure continue to disrupt electricity and water supplies in several regions of Ukraine, including the Chernihiv, Poltava and Sumy regions. The UN Human Rights Office (OHCHR) documented more than 70 such attacks in April and May alone.
Humanitarian workers continue to provide emergency assistance after shelling of a residential area of Nikolaev in Friday. Complementing the efforts of emergency responders, aid workers are providing psychological support and materials to repair damaged housing. In addition, the victims receive hot meals.
