UN Humanitarian Coordinator in Ukraine Denise Brown strongly condemned the attack on a residential area in the Novobavarsky district of Kharkov, which killed and injured people, including children, and damaged residential buildings. As a result of repeated strikes in the same area, rescuers rushing to help the victims were also injured.
“I express my deepest condolences to the families affected by the continuous attacks of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation,” Brown said.
“Escalation of hostilities in Kharkov and other parts of Ukraine continues to devastate the lives of families, making humanitarian response efforts even more critical and difficult,” she added.
The Humanitarian Coordinator stressed, that international humanitarian law strictly prohibits attacks on civilians or civilian infrastructure: “Living in fear of airstrikes at home, at work or in a store is not normal.”
