UN Secretary-General António Guterres condemned in the strongest terms today’s terrorist attack at the Crocus City Hall concert hall, located near Moscow. The attack reportedly killed dozens of people and injured more than a hundred. The UN Security Council also issued a sharp condemnation on Friday evening.
The Secretary General expressed deep condolences to the families of the victims, as well as the people and government of the Russian Federation, and wished a speedy recovery to the victims.
Find and punish those responsible
Security Council President Yamazaki Kazuyuki (Japan) issued a press statement on Friday. The document, in particular, states that members of the Security Council “condemned in the strongest possible terms the vile and cowardly terrorist attack committed on March 22 in a concert hall in Krasnogorsk, Moscow region of the Russian Federation.”
The members of the Security Council expressed their deepest condolences to the families of the victims and the entire Russian people and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.
Terrorism – threat to peace
Members of the Security Council reaffirmed that terrorism in all its forms and manifestations constitutes one of the most serious threats to international peace and security.
They also emphasized the need to bring to justice all perpetrators, organizers and sponsors of these terrorist acts. Council members called on all states, in accordance with their obligations under international law and relevant Security Council resolutions, to actively cooperate with the Russian government on this issue.
No justification
Members of the Security Council reiterated that any terrorist attack is a crime that cannot be justified, regardless of where, when, by whom and for what reasons it was committed.
